WAAI is a group of private investors who actively invest in early stage companies in Perth, with the vision of being the destination of quality deal flow in WA. The group aims to provide the efficient sourcing and allocation of early stage investment capital for investment ready opportunities in WA.

• Educating angel investors to support better investment outcomes

CINI Australia is a charity raising funds to help assist communities in West Bangal. Their projects aim to develop good nutrition and health care, safe childbirth, healthy and educated children, with the opportunity of freedom from poverty.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Organisational leadership and promotion of the organisation, including fundraising

• Formulation and oversight of policies and procedures

• Financial management, including adoption and oversight of the annual budget

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND OPERATIONS

BLACKBURNE PROPERTY & DEVELOPMENT GROUP, PERTH WA. 2009-2011

The Blackburne Group is a national company, offering a full spectrum of services across the property life cycle throughout Australia. Blackburne are the largest non-franchise real estate company in Western Australia.During my time there, Blackburne had three office locations; 100 staff; and made $350 million in annual sales.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Key member of the management team that met weekly to manage the business

• Detailed cost accounting, including separating income and costs into ten profit centres and allocation of overheads across different business units and states

• Complete responsibility for the preparation, reporting and monitoring of departmental budgets

• Financial reporting on a daily, monthly, quarterly and annual basis to both the CEO and board of directors

• Detailed breakeven and profitability analysis and projections

• Detailed weekly cash-flow monitoring and projections, making allowances for seasonal peaks and troughs in income and expenses.

• Various financial modelling, projections and analysis taking into account different scenarios. Including the purchase of new premises as opposed to leasing, redesign of commission structures and venturing into new income streams.

ACHIEVEMENTS

• Reduction of fixed overheads by 28% (circa $500,000) through strategic identification of cost reduction opportunities and improving operational efficiency.

GROUP FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

COLLIERS INTERNATIONAL, AIRLIE BEACH QLD. 2004-2009

PRDnationwide Whitsunday is a prestigious company in the top 1% of real estate agents in Australia. The office has been the PRD franchise’s number one office for five consecutive years. In 2004 they were awarded the Real Estate Institute of Queensland’s Agency of the Year.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Preparation, reporting and monitoring of departmental budgets

• Financial reporting on a daily, monthly, quarterly and annual basis to both the CEO and board of directors.

• Detailed breakeven and profitability analysis and projections

• Responsibility for expenditure monitoring, reduction, purchase order systems and timely payment of creditors

ACHIEVEMENTS

• Replacing a prominently fixed cost structure with a variable alternative, resulting in a 62% reduction in the breakeven point.

• Complete responsibility for the acquisition and merger with a competing agency.

• Restructuring sales employees as contractors resulting in annual savings in excess of $300,000 and a significant competitive advantage in staff retention.

ACCOUNTANT

BENTLEYS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS, IPSWICH QLD. 2000-2004

Bentleys is a premier second-tier accounting firm. The Ipswich office had four partners, thirty-five staff and was the largest accounting practice in the region.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Preparation of quarterly consolidated financial statements, including various adjustments and amendments for inter-group transfers, transactions and service fees

• Tax planning and budgeting analysis on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis

• Analysis of client performance against published industry benchmarks, including investigation of discrepancies and advice on how to improve inconsistencies

• Reconciliation and dissection of various profit and loss and balance sheet general ledgers

• Dissection and allocation of expenses to correct entities and cost centres within a group

• Preparation and analysis of forecasted cash flows, taking into consideration various possible scenarios, for presentation to financial institutions

• Detailed analysis of client reporting systems, providing advice on how to improve bookkeeping procedures and reduce compliance costs

• Providing detailed advice in relation to client queries and how to resolve and avoid various issues as they arise

• Providing comprehensive advice and assistance with various other taxation and business related issues including salary packaging, analysis of potential business purchases, appropriate structures, payment of dividends, allocation of funds, etc
